ARTS510 // Principles of Design
Students are randomly assigned a classic commodity (gold, sugar, salt, wood, clay, silk, cotton, etc.) and use some aspect of that commodity as the seed to create a product, service, or organization—culminating in a logo and branding design. The students begin with research about their commodity, and then follow a logo design process in which they create 50 thumbnail ideas, then narrow to 20 tighter/more refined ideas, then to 5 logo drafts, and then a final design which is organized and delivered as a Pitch Presentation in class.
The following examples come from three different semesters.
